First World War Military Research

"Croonaert Research Services" are pleased to be able to offer a competitively priced research service to all those who require information on British soldiers who fought during the First World War.
After providing us with as much information as possible about the soldier you want to be researched, we will construct for you a dossier containing details of his and his unit's service during World War One. Most of this research is conducted at a fixed price, however, we are available for individually priced commissions on certain subjects including some WW2 soldiers and servicemen/units of other armies. We will endeavour to get this information to you within 4 to 6 weeks , however, for certain individuals and subjects, this may require a little longer. Please email us about any of the options listed below or any individual project you require.
As from 30th April 2008, we are also available for talks and displays on a variety of First World War subjects some of which are adaptable to be of interest to a variety of different age ranges and levels of expertise. We will also be able to offer self-drive battlefield tour routes customised to your own individual needs/interests as from this date. Again, please contact us for further details.

Here are the research packages we offer (all prices include postage within the UK) ...
Option 1 - Basic Casualty Package...
This package concentrates mainly on the day that your subject died and offers the following...
- A readout from the "Soldiers Died in the Great War" which gives (in most cases) information about Place of Birth, Place of Residence and Place of Enlistment, along with mention of any previous unit served in.
- A printout of any information to be gleaned from the CWGC ,
- A copy of your soldier's MIC ("Medal Index Card") - possibly giving your soldier's date of arrival overseas, and definitely his medal entitlement).
- A search of the multiple "Rolls of Honour" either possessed or accessible to us such as the "National Roll" and "de Ruvigny's " (Please note that it's not guaranteed that there will be any mention in either of the last two sources).
- An extract from the "Official History", giving details of what happened on the day that your chosen subject died, including any relevant maps.
- Possible (probable) extract from your subject's Regimental History, giving (possibly in-depth) details about what he and his unit were doing that day and on the previous few days.
- Full colour copies of official and non-official map extracts (including trench maps dated as near to the actual date as possible) showing the area in which your subject died or was wounded (in the case of DOW's)
- A list of all soldiers who died on the same day from the same unit
- Copies of any relevant photographs, held by us.
- An attractive half size (or A4 size if requested) laminated replica of your subject's Memorial Scroll (these are individually made and are NOT the simple print-offs from SDGW that can be encountered elsewhere)
Price :- £45
(If using the "Buy Now" option , please don't forget to also send us an email with your own details and the details of the research that you wish for us to undertake!)
-------------------------------
Option 2 - the main package (both casualty and non-casualty)...
We charge £20 per hour for research time which includes work at the National Archives at Kew along with several other sources such as regimental archives, libraries, etc. , and £10 per hour for the accumulation of all found information, publishing, etc. Any photocopying costs or other expenses are included in this charge and will not be added on afterwards.
As we have full confidence in our experience and abilities in researching soldiers, we operate using quotes and not estimates, so that the price that we quote is the final price - there will be no extra fees afterwards. If we make a misjudgement on the length of time the research will take, then that will be to our own detriment and not yours - We won't be charging for the extra hours taken.
The end result of the research will be an attractive, professionally bound dossier with your soldier's story written up in a biographical style. Any documents, photos, etc that have been copied will be supplied along with this dossier and they can also be supplied on a CD-ROM at your request.
In the case of the subject being a casualty, all items from the "Option 1" package would also be included.
Price :- As each case is individual, each one will have to be assessed separately and ,therefore, be priced accordingly. Generally, dependant on the case, prices would average to be between £60 and £120 per package.
