This is just a list of useful sites "off the top of my head". There are many more out there and I will add them as I come across (or remember!) them. You can't go far wrong with any of those listed here, just click on the name to visit...
The British Army in the Great War - a fantastically detailed site with information about most British Army units combined with an unrivalled amount of facts and figures. One of the best.
The Regimental Warpath - similar content to the above in regards to the British "Order of Battle", but also has details of Colonial units. Another extremely useful site.
Trenches on the Web - A U.S. orientated site that has much varied detail on a myriad of subjects (and now incorporates "the Doughboy Center"). You can spend quite some time on this site!!!
Western Front Association - The website of the W.F.A. Quite a few articles of interest ,including another description of how to read trench maps.
Accrington Pals - an extremely interesting site dedicated to the memory of the "Pals" Battalion of this East Lancashire town. A vast amount of of information is contained here both about the pals and the "local" war.
Burnley Men 1914-18 - A well researched site listing the gallantry medal winning members of this Lancashire town, many with biographies/obituaries. Also articles on local war memorials.
Old Front Line - Paul Reed's excellent, informative site with much information on units and the battlefields, etc.
Hellfire Corner - Extremely interesting site with a wide variety of information and many contributed articles.
World War 1 Links - A useful website literally FULL of links to other WW1 sites.
The Silent Cities - An excellent reference site for British WW1 cemeteries. A sort of modernised "electronic" version of Sidney Hurst's 1929 classic.
World War One Cemeteries - Similar site to that listed above - photographs of all the CWGC cemeteries that contain 40 or more graves in France and Belgium.
The Naval & Military Press - Thousands of difficult or impossible to find military books/ unit histories/ manuals, etc. in re-print form.
Commonwealth War Graves Commission - Homesite of this organisation, includes a search facility.
Volksbund Deutscher Kriegsgraberfursorge - The German War Graves Commission....
Sepultures de Guerre - ...and the French equivalent...
American Battle Monuments Commission - ...and the US equivalent.
Somme 1916 - Another of Paul Reed's excellent sites, this time dedicated solely to the Somme battles and battlefields. Includes information indispensable for the 90th anniversary in 2006 and also hosts a related discussion forum.
Victoria Cross forum - Discussion forum for all VC related interests. Any question on the medal or it's recipients then here is the place to find the answer!
