Mine Craters

In the grounds of Hooge Chateau near Ypres, these craters were formed in June 1916 when the Germans blew several mines under the Canadian lines.

The Spanbroekmolen "Pool of Peace" near Wijtschaete. This mine was detonated under the German lines on June 7th 1917 beginning the Battle of Messines

The Peckham Crater nearby Spanbroekmolen. Another of the 7th of June 1917 mines.

The huge Lochnagar Crater near La Boiselle on the Somme was detonated on 1st July 1916 to start the Battle of the Somme.
